The Order of the Secret Monitor

A Warrant having been granted with the date of 29th September 1993 by the Grand Conclave of the Order of the Secret Monitor (or Brotherhood of David and Jonathan) for the British Isles and Overseas Territories, our Order was introduced into France by the formation of the Narbo Semper Fidelis Conclave, n°383, to work in Narbonne.

Further development of the Order led to the opening of the following Conclaves:

  • Occitania Semper Fidelis n° 403 , on the 14th June 1995 in Toulouse,
  • Les Amis Fidèles de St-Malo n° 422 , on the 15th March 1997 in Saint-Malo,
  • Nemausus n° 438 , on the 9th May 1998 in Nîmes,

and on the 9th May 1998 the "Supreme Rulers" of Three of the Four Conclaves petitioned the Grand Supreme Ruler to establish a Sovereign Grand Conclave in France.

The Petition was accepted in principle, and on the 12 th June, instructed by the Grand Supreme Ruler, Most Worthy Brother Peter Glyn Williams, the Grand Secretary, Right Worthy Brother Timothy J. LEWIS, Past G.S.R., started preliminary consultations with each of the existing Conclaves to explore their feelings concerning the possibility of a Sovereign Grand Conclave for France.

The results of these consultations being unanimously in favour, a referendum was organised between the 20 th June and the 31st July 1998.

Following the favourable results of this referendum, the Grand Supreme Ruler, Most Worthy Brother Peter Glyn Williams, accompanied by a team of Grand Officers of the Grand Conclave of the Order of the Secret Monitor for the British Isles, came to France on Friday, 19 th February 1999, in order to Constitute the Conclaves he had previously Consecrated into a Sovereign Grand Conclave of the Order for France.

The Order of the Secret Monitor, sometimes referred to as "The Brotherhood of David and Jonathan," governed in France by the Grand Conclave of the Order of the Secret Monitor or Brotherhood of David and Jonathan for France, is one of the Orders cited in Article 2 of the Statutes of the Association known as the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of France, registered on the 24th January 1997 under the number n°3/26513, in conformity with the Law of the 1st July 1901.

The Degrees of the Order controlled by the Grand Conclave are those of:

  •  Secret Monitor
  •
  •  Prince of the Order
  •
  •  Supreme Ruler
  •

The Grand Conclave now has 22 Conclaves working in France and one overseas.
