The Order of the Red Cross of Constantine

A Warrant being granted on 12th June 1995 by the Grand Imperial Conclave for England, Wales and Territories Overseas of the Masonic and Military Order of the Red Cross of Constantine and the Orders of the Holy Sepulchre and of St. John the Evangelist, these United Orders were established in France by the formation of the Occitania Conclave, n° 433,.to meet in Toulouse.

Further steady and harmonious development of the Order led to the consecration of the following :
- Nemausus Conclave n°443, on 19th 1996 in Nîmes,
- Saint-Louis en Isle-de-France Conclave n° 435, on 30th May 1997 in Paris,
- La Chaise-Dieu Conclave n° 456, on 8th May 1998 in Clermont-Ferrand,

and on the 9th May 1998 the Most Puissant Sovereigns of three of the four Conclaves petitioned the Most Illustrious Grand Sovereign of England for the establishment of a Sovereign Grand Conclave for France.

The Petition was favourably received in principle, and on the 12th June, instructed by the Grand Sovereign, Most Illustrious Knight Cdr. Ronald Albert CHAMPION, R.N., G.C.C., the Grand Recorder, Right Illustrious Knight Timothy J. LEWIS, K.C.C., P.Int.Gal., launched a preliminary consultation of each of the existing Conclaves to explore their feelings regarding a possible Sovereign Grand Imperial Conclave for France.

 The results of these consultations being unanimously in favour, a referendum was organised between the 20 th June and the 31st July 1998, following which, the Most Illustrious Grand Sovereign, M.Ill.Kt. Cdr. Ronald Albert Champion, R.N., G.C.C., accompanied by a team of Grand Officers from the Grand Imperial Conclave for England, Wales and Territories Overseas of the Masonic and Military Order of the Red Cross of Constantine and the Orders of the Holy Sepulchre and of St. John the Evangelist, travelled to France on Friday, 19th February 1999, in order to constitute the Conclaves heretofore consecrated into a Sovereign Body of the said United Orders for France.

The Orders of the Red Cross of Constantine, of the Holy Sepulchre and of St. John the Evangelist, governed in France by The Grand Imperial Conclave for France of the Masonic and Military Order of the Red Cross of Constantine and of the Orders of the Holy Sepulchre and of Saint-John the Evangelist are one of the Orders referred to at Art. 2 of the Articles of Association of a Body Corporate known as the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of France, incorporated on 24th January 1997 under n° 3/26513, in accordance with the provisions of the Law of the 1st July 1901, regulating Non-Profit Corporations and Societies.

 The Degrees of the Order controlled by the Grand Conclave are those of:

  • Knight of the Red Cross of Constantine
  • Knight of the Holy Sepulchre
  • Knight of Saint John the Evangelist

Honours within this Order, conferred by the Grand College, are the following: 

  • Knight Commander of Constantine
  • Knight Grand Cross of Constantine
The Grand Imperial Conclave for France presently has 10 Conclaves of the Order, 7 on French soil, and 3 in foreign lands overseas.
