A Warrant being granted on 23rd September 1993 by the Grand Council of the Order of the Allied Masonic Degrees for England and Wales, our Order of the Allied Degrees was established in France on that day by the consecration of the Marca Hispanica Council, n° 133, to work in Narbonne. A steady development of the Order saw the following Councils later established: and on the 9th May 1998 the Sovereign Masters of the three Councils then in existence, petitioned the Grand Master of the Order in England for the formation of a Sovereign Grand Council in France. The Petition was accepted in principle, and on the 12 th of June the said Grand Master, Most Worshipful Brother Michael Edward HERBERT, and the Grand Secretary, Most Worshipful Brother Timothy J. LEWIS, P.G.M., launched a preliminary consultation within the three existing Councils to explore their feelings regarding the desire for a Sovereign Grand Council for France. The results of these consultations being unanimously in favour, a referendum was organised between 20th June and 31st July 1998, and following the positive results thereof, Most Worshipful Brother Michael Edward HERBERT, Grand Master, accompanied by a team of Grand Officers from the Grand Council of the Allied Masonic Degrees for England and Wales, came to France on Friday, 19th February 1999, in order to constitute the three Councils heretofore Consecrated into a Sovereign Grand Council of the Order for France.
